At GENGU CABLE, we manufacture power cables for grid, renewable, rail and industrial projects in China and overseas. As a power transmission cable manufacturer, our portfolio includes high- and medium-voltage cables for land-based transmission and sub-transmission circuits, where long service life, installation conditions and system reliability place higher demands on cable design, testing and documentation.

Core Transmission & Sub-Transmission Applications
In the high- and medium-voltage work we do, a few application scenarios show up again and again when it comes to land-based transmission and sub-transmission circuits.
- Substation interconnections: Land-based underground XLPE power cable networks routed through ducts, tunnels or direct burial paths to keep key nodes in the grid connected.
- Renewable energy integration: High-capacity export and connection circuits that transmit power from large wind and solar plants into the main grid with stable performance over time.
- Overhead solutions: Bare conductors or aerial bundled cables (ABC) deployed where terrain constraints or cost-efficiency make aerial routes the practical choice for transferring power between nodes.
- Critical infrastructure feeders: Robust high- and medium-voltage feeders that supply railway traction power systems, heavy industrial complexes and other mission-critical loads.
These applications all sit close to the backbone of the grid, so failures carry higher technical, commercial and safety consequences than in routine low-voltage distribution. In land-based transmission work, that means looking at how a circuit behaves over its whole route and service life—from loading and thermal limits to fault clearing and repairs—not just whether an individual cable sample passes a factory test.
Where GENGU Fits in Land-Based Transmission Projects
Within this context, GENGU supplies cable systems for two main types of land-based transmission and sub-transmission circuits: underground cable routes and overhead line routes.
For underground routes, we produce high- and medium-voltage XLPE power cables used in land-based transmission and sub-transmission circuits. These cables are available with copper or aluminum conductors, corrugated aluminum sheaths, longitudinal water-blocking structures, metallic screens and flame-retardant sheaths, depending on the project’s requirements. They are designed for installation in ducts, tunnels and direct burial routes where insulation performance, thermal behavior and mechanical robustness over decades of service are critical.

For overhead routes, we manufacture bare overhead conductors such as AAC, AAAC and ACSR, together with low- and medium-voltage aerial bundled cables (ABC) for overhead distribution and sub-transmission networks. These products are used on routes where underground installation is not practical or economical, and where mechanical strength, sag and environmental exposure—wind, UV, salt or ice—are as important as electrical performance.

If a project requires a mix of underground transmission cables and overhead line products, we can help project teams plan and source this scope in a coordinated way rather than fragmenting it across multiple suppliers.
How GENGU Manages Quality, Testing and Traceability
At GENGU CABLE, power transmission and sub-transmission cables go through our end-to-end quality control system that covers the entire process from raw materials to finished cables, with inspection points built into the production flow. Incoming copper is checked for diameter, resistivity and elongation before drawing, and we apply in-process controls at key manufacturing steps such as insulation extrusion, screening, laying-up and sheathing. For higher-voltage products, we include partial discharge testing so that insulation defects that are invisible to the eye can still be detected before shipment. Finished drums are subjected to voltage withstand tests before they leave the plant.
Traceability is part of this system. Production records, material certificates and test results can be linked back to specific batches and even to individual drums. That gives our engineers and our clients’ QA and inspection teams a concrete basis for reviewing questions during factory visits, shipment acceptance or later in the service life of a cable.
Testing and Documentation for International Projects
On international projects, testing and documentation are shaped as much by the target market’s standards and approval practices as by the cable design itself. Tenders in different countries may call up IEC, EN, BS or utility-specific specifications, and require type test reports, routine and sample test records, third-party witness tests and clear references to the clauses that apply.
We prepare documentation packages that match these expectations. Depending on the project, that can include mapping between GB and IEC or other frameworks, presenting test results in the formats project engineers are used to, and clarifying any gaps early so they can be discussed before they become issues in the tender or approval process. Our technical team stays involved so that questions about design choices, test regimes or installation conditions can be answered directly, rather than filtered only through commercial communication.
For buyers and project engineers, this means that when a cable design and documentation package are accepted, the project has a clear technical basis to move into execution and installation.
Capacity and Delivery for Project-Based Work
During project execution, delays in cable supply can hold up trenching, installation crews or commissioning, even when other parts of the project are ready. Transmission and sub-transmission projects often run over many months with staged construction and evolving schedules, so cable production and delivery have to be planned with the same discipline as the rest of the work.
At GENGU, we operate four plants with more than 60 production lines and an annual capacity of around 50,000 kilometers of cable. We organize this capacity around project timelines rather than only individual orders, locking in production windows and batch sequences against key route and installation milestones so that phased deliveries land in the right window for each stage of the project. For overseas projects, we coordinate production, inspection, shipment and documentation together so that cable supply supports the broader construction schedule instead of becoming a bottleneck.
